An important part of the valve job is "registering" the valve to the valve seat. This is done using a marking chemical called Prussian Blue which transfers from the valve seat to the valve to indicate where on the valve the seat contacts. Adjustments can be made by machining the valve seat to optimize this contact point. This one shows right in the center of the valve face.
